We grew older.
We grew older
/
I awoke
/
Skin bathed in sunlight
Remembered what it all meant
To be alive
And to breathe
/
Wondering how long it had been since
I’d walked this path
Not meant for me
/
Leaves piled atop old branches
Slopes painted by dust
Magic
left untouched
Throughout the years
/
A moon faded in the sky
Wedged between stars
I thought of our final moments
And the darkness it loomed
Like an old friend
Clawing its way
back
Into my gut
/
But I forgot
How to take it seriously
Two steps forward
Two steps back
In the end, what does it matter?
Whether I am here
Or there
Or nothing at all
/
We grew older.
/
Something changed
within my heart
Or, perhaps
went back to its initial state of being
/
I could feel the rain across my arms
Greeting me into a new world
Every colour that had been hidden
Unveiled
/
One may have danced
But I merely smiled
and carried on
Across the path
Not meant for me
/
I cried
sang
And then, came a clearing.
/
There was no use
in pretending
anymore
/
I realized
I just wanted
To be happy
