i observe you

my village boy

whose house i have invaded

ever since you found me in your barn

three moons ago

/

as you sleep

i blink

i wipe away the excess dust

that has fallen on your eyelash

from the attic’s window

crickets sing a lullaby for children

the past returns, a gut-churning call

i suddenly miss

who i was

yesterday

/

it was easier

when i didn’t have a soul

/

you are risking your life for me

i want to do the same

/

as i look at you up close

closer

i kiss your forehead

i whisper

good night

i love you

and i worry

about what the next birth

may bring
