it tapped on my door, the monstrous thing

i could not hear it, made sure i wouldn’t

young

by filling my ears with cotton

by sleeping

until dusk left

the sky

was purple again when i closed my eyes

music started playing

a tune so silent yet so human all the same

i wanted to go

where the fire goes

and the trees dance

i wanted to go

where the people went to clap their hands

in spring, in autumn, in winter but not summer

it tapped on my door, the monstrous thing

i could hear it, but made sure i wouldn’t

it tapped on my door, the monstrous thing

i got up on two feet

started singing

started swaying

it tapped on my door

the calling for more
